Introdução
Kirk Fanelly vive e trabalha em sua cidade natal, Charlotte, Carolina do Norte (EUA). É bacharel em Artes Visuais pela Brown University, tendo dividido a graduação entre a Brown e a vizinha RISD, onde cursou disciplinas nos departamentos de pintura, gravura e ilustração.
O trabalho de Fanelly já foi exibido em exposições individuais e coletivas pelo leste dos Estados Unidos, incluindo as Van Every/Smith Galleries do Davidson College, o Turchin Center for the Visual Arts da Appalachian State University, a Rutledge Gallery da Winthrop University (Rock Hill, SC), o Artspace (Richmond, VA), o Weatherspoon Art Museum (Greensboro, NC) e o Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (Winston-Salem, NC). Sua exposição individual de 2026 no Mint Museum (Charlotte, NC) apresentou uma seleção de obras dos últimos vinte e cinco anos. Suas obras integram coleções públicas e privadas em vários países.
Entre bolsas e prêmios estão uma North Carolina Arts Council Fellowship, uma Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation Fellowship e uma Yale Summer School of Music & Art at Norfolk Fellowship.
Declaração de artista
A ênfase e os materiais do meu trabalho mudaram na última década: o que antes eram papéis coadjuvantes — a natureza e o papel recortado — passou ao primeiro plano. Nas minhas pinturas narrativas anteriores, eu me interessava sobretudo pelo constrangimento e pela vulnerabilidade das pessoas em relação à nossa psicogeografia — ambientes arquitetônicos, costumes e mitos dos subúrbios, dinâmicas sexuais e as narrativas inquietantes sugeridas por trás de portas fechadas.
Nos últimos anos, meu trabalho encontrou mais sentido nos materiais e na contemplação do mundo natural em geral do que nos encontros com o absurdo humano — que não anda em falta nos dias de hoje. Minha abordagem atual me parece cada vez mais ampla e serena. O processo do papel recortado tem me feito redescobrir minha ligação com a ciência e a natureza, e encontrar alegria na observação atenta.
